An Ode to Autumn

An Ode to Autumn | Kimberly Hetherington

Here’s to another autumn…
Another chance to let go; to shed.
To prepare to go inwards for a season of stillness, darkness and cold.

I’ve never been a fan of change.
Unless, of course, I’m the one who instigates it.
But life moves at its own pace, its own rhythm.

We either ride the wave,
or let ourselves drown.
No offence to be taken.

So I make an effort to enjoy this season of life.

The golden sunsets,
The colorful leaves scattered on wet pavement,
The cosy sweaters,
Warm baths at the end of the day.

I’ll take the opportunity to move with nature.
To let go when it asks rather than gripping with white knuckles.

My reluctance makes no difference anyway.
I’ll nurture and witness all that might have been missed in the blaze of summer.
