Do you ever forget?

by Kimberly Hetherington

Do you ever forget, in the warmth of the summer, that the earth could ever turn cold again?

That somehow these very trees will lose their leaves and the clouds will be heavy with water?

That instead of shorts and t-shirts our bodies will be bundled in coats and scarves, and we will see our breath with every exhale?

That my skin, kissed and bronzed by the sun, will soon return to its original shade.

It’s hard to believe it sometimes.

That life could ever be different than what it is.
