You ever get those moments that feel almost like a very clear cut sign that you’re on the right track?
Like those kinds of moments that are just missing an ominous godly voice slowly billowing through the silence with “well done Kimberly… keep going, you are exactly where you should be.” I don’t like to say that the universe is conspiring because it sounds so cliché but it certainly does feel as though there is something conspiring. Maybe it’s just my inner Byron Bay spiritual side taking over, or maybe I’m just going crazy.
It’s an odd sensation to go from life in Canada straight back into the life I had in Sydney. It feels as though I’ve hit a button and the chair I’m strapped to has gone underneath the floorboards and appeared in an entirely new setting. I have settled back into Sydney life quite quickly. I have a job, found an apartment (with a cat!) and re-established connections with my friends. This time feels a lot different though, as it should. I know what I want now and I intend to follow that through. I look forward to seeing how this year unfolds.
While sitting on my flight to Sydney, trapped in the middle aisle seat on a 13-hour flight, I had a lot to think about. I watched a bunch of movies and a love story called ‘Me Before You’ was one that stood out. I found it to be a very believable and inspiring story. It reinforced that although there is a fair share of things that will happen to us in life that fall out of our control, there are still many elements that we can take charge of. Particularly in terms of limiting ourselves to what’s comfortable and allowing miserable relationships (or jobs) to rob us of our precious time. Although it can be difficult to leave the comfort of what we know, life is truly lived once when we do. If you are looking for a sweet, rainy day love story, go ahead and watch that.
May these quotes uplift, inspire and fuel you into the month of November! ♥
Sometimes the things we love will kill us, but weren’t we dying anyway?
-Warsan Shire. If you haven’t heard of this woman then I highly recommend you look her up. She’s a prolific poet and this may be one of my most favorite quotes, I kinda want it tattooed on me. Spoiler alert – one day we’ll be dead (sorry to be a downer). In the meantime, you might as well go after what or who you love before your time is over.
“You shouldn’t try to stop everything from happening. Sometimes you’re supposed to feel awkward. Sometimes you’re supposed to be vulnerable in front of people. Sometimes it’s necessary because it’s all part of you getting to the next part of yourself.”
-Cecelia Ahern. A beautiful and important piece of advice that I often reflect on when I’m in an awkward or uncomfortable situation. I wish someone made this more clear to me as a teenager when just the idea of sneezing in class and having people to look at me made me want to curl up in the corner and cry. My shyness was paralysing and absolutely ridiculous. Sometimes we gotta just allow the natural progression of life to take hold, awkward moments and all.
“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”
-Nelson Mandela. Roll up your sleeves and steer in the direction of your passions, it won’t always be easy but trust me – its always worth it. Go back to quote number 1. Live life!
“The price of anything is the amount of life you exchange for it.”
-Henry David Thoreau. Your time is the most valuable thing you have. Don’t waste it on bad relationships or horrible jobs. Your time is valuable, choose what you wish to exchange for it.
