Top 10 Roadtrip Songs

Top Ten Roadtrip Songs | Art Therapy with Kimberly

I’m going to Perth next month on a road trip with my cousin so I’ve compiled a list of my favourite roadtrippin’ songs to get me in traveling spirit!

Tom Cochrane – Life is A Highway

Classic road trip song. I can just picture a long deserted highway, cruising in a convertible, hair blowing furiously in the wind and singing this at the top of my lungs. ‘I’ll be there when the light comes in, just tell ’em we’re survivoooors!’

Fleetwood Mac – Go Your Own Way

I feel like this is the greatest song to get you fired up to make some serious changes in your life. Particularly in terms of ending a relationship that is only dragging you down. If you know you’ve tried your best and it still isn’t working then cut that sh*t lose and go your own way!

Passenger – Travelling Song

I made a video to this song while traveling through Vietnam with my friends. Now whenever I hear it I feel like going on another adventure… “this is your traveling song, and I hope it sees you well, through train rides and hotels…”

Oasis – Don’t Look Back in Anger

A road trip isn’t complete without some Oasis. I remember listening to this song in high school with a group of friends while we were on our way to a secluded cottage. We screamed more than we sang but you can’t really do the “sooooo Sally can wait” without belting it, can you? It’s just so satisfying!

Whitesnake – Here I Go Again

This song felt like my anthem when leaving Beijing for Australia. I think many other solo travelers out there can relate to the lyrics and feel empowered them. It’s kinda cool when you can hone in on the power of your own independence and start doing what you want with or without others. ‘I’ve made up my mind, I ain’t wasting more more time. Here I go again…’    *starts headbanging and playing the invisible drums*

Beck – Heart Is a Drum

This song is for the part of the road trip where the conversations start to run dry and you become reflective. I feel like it’s the perfect background music for when you’re driving down an empty road underneath a cluster of trees, when it’s ripe in the afternoon and bursts of sun shine through and everything just feels warm and peaceful…

Blue Rodeo – 5 Days in May

This song reminds me of long car rides with my Mum. I remember when I was a kid, sitting in the back seat with my sister and watching my Mum in the rearview mirror as she sang along to every word. I love the harmonica in this song too, it’s so soothing.

Boston – More Than a Feeling

I love the way this song builds like a rollercoaster. Just after it hits the chorus “I closed my eyes then I slipped away..” it feels like you’re falling into a puddle of pure beautiful bliss!

John Mayer – Why Georgia

I remember listening to this song on repeat when I lived in Ottawa. I loved the lyrics, “four more exits to my apartment but I am tempted to the keep the car in drive and leave it all behind.” I would daydream about what that would be like to just leave it all behind. And then one day I went ahead and did exactly that. It feels good to listen to this song now standing from my vantage point. It still stirs me, and makes me reflective.

Spin Doctors – Two Princes

I love this song because it makes me feel so easygoing and free. The kind of song that zooms you away from the details and reveals the whole picture. Laugh, enjoy, have fun and enjoy the ride!
